Pillowmen Series. 2020-21. Oil on glass. 11”x14”

This work revisits notions of storytelling through portraiture. It engages the artificiality and subjectivity of the observed phenomena from 2020. The repeating pattern provides place and circumstance while the figures are reduced to paper cut outs with only eyes. I wanted to make a series that still dealt with the figure and its emotive qualities, but had no need for models.
After Andrew Browne

I have considered these as video call versions of the people they describe, with the glitchy auto-fill background, posed composition and unflattering exposure.
